N P Taylor and Barthlott in Bradleya 13 (1995)

This newly described subspecies differs from the more southerly ranging subsp. paradoxa in its consistently narrower stem-segments, only 7-11 mm in diameter and in its flowers, which turn a brighter yellow postanthesis and have longer, thinner and more spreading stigma-lobes.
